SSH, which is an abbreviation for Secure Shell, is a network protocol that is used to transfer encrypted information between a client and a server, which makes it impossible for unauthorized parties to intercept any info. Many tech-savvy customers choose SSH due to the enhanced security level. The connection is established and the commands are delivered via a command line. The accessible options depend on the type of web hosting service - on a shared server, in particular, files could be transferred or deleted, databases may be imported and exported, and archives could be created or unpacked. On a virtual or a dedicated server, the choices are significantly more - the web server and the database server could be started/stopped/rebooted, server-side software can be set up and much more. These things aren't possible on a shared server, due to the fact that full root access is needed and all the other customers on that server shall be affected. Although SSH is employed largely with UNIX-like Operating Systems, there are SSH clients for other OSs too - Windows, Mac OS, and so forth.

SSH Telnet in Hosting

SSH access is offered with all hosting plans we offer you. With some of them, it's offered by default, while with others it is an optional upgrade which you can include with several clicks from your web hosting Control Panel. You could get SSH access from the section dedicated to it in which you shall also find the details that you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You may choose the password that you shall use and, if needed, you will be able to change it with several mouse clicks from the same place. All the commands which may be used with our shared plans are listed within a help article along with relevant examples. If the SSH access function is permitted for your account, you shall also be able to upload files using your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

SSH access is included as standard with some of our semi-dedicated server packages, while with others you may add it via the hosting Control Panel if needed - even only for the current month. In either case, you could activate and de-activate the function with only one click via the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same location, you'll see the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You will also find a box in which you could type in the password you want to use, as it doesn't have to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better protection, you may also change it as much as you require. The full list of the commands which can be executed within a semi-dedicated account is provided in our Knowledge Base, together with the syntax and a few instances. An extra function after SSH access is enabled will be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client which supports such connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

You shall be able to use SSH to handle your content regardless which VPS hosting plans you select when you sign up, because all of our packages include this feature by default. You'll not have to add or activate anything by hand - the instant your hosting server is ready and you get the Welcome email with the login credentials, you could connect and begin working on your web sites or any software you want to set up and run on the machine. You'll have root-level access to the VPS and since the account shall be separated from all the other accounts in the physical hosting server, you'll be able to do anything you need without any restrictions. You could set up any app which you need and which will work on a Linux-based server, reboot any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and handle your files and databases efficiently.
