The definition of “hosting” does not describe just one service, but a set of services that provide various functions to a domain name. Having a site and emails, as an example, are two individual services though in the general case they come together, so most people consider them as one single service. In fact, every domain name has a number of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that handles each particular service - the former is a numeric IP address, which identifies where the website for the domain address is loaded from, while the latter is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that handles the emails for the domain address. For example, an A record can be 123.123.123.123 and an MX record would be mx1.domain.com. Whenever you open a site or send an e-mail, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a domain name has and the traffic/message is first directed to that company. In case you have custom records on their end, the browser request or the e-mail will be sent to the correct server. The idea behind using separate records is that the two services employ different web protocols and you may have your website hosted by one provider and the emails by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, that comes with each and every hosting plan we offer you, will allow you to view, change and set up A and MX records for any Internet domain or subdomain within your account. Using the DNS Records section, you're going to be able to see a list of all hosts in the account in alphabetical order with their related records, so any update isn't going to take you more than a few clicks. Setting up new records is just as simple if, for example, you want to use the email services of a different company and they ask you to create more MX records than the default 2. You can also set the priority for every MX record by setting different latency. Put simply, when your emails are delivered, the sending server will contact the record with the smallest latency first and if the connection times out, it is going to contact the next one. Through our innovative tool, you are going to be able to manage the records of your domain names and subdomains effortlessly even when you have no prior experience with such matters.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you buy a semi-dedicated server plan from our company, you will be able to view and change the A and MX records for every one of the domains or subdomains you host in the account. The Hepsia CP, which you'll get to manage the account, offers an advanced, although easy-to-use tool in which all hosts will be listed in alphabetical order and you will be able to change their records with no more than a few clicks. If you have to set up a new record, it's going to be equally easy - choose the domain/subdomain, enter the IP address or mail server record and you are going to be all set. You'll also be able to set different priority for the MX records that you create in case you decide to use a third-party email provider and they ask you to set up additional records aside from the 2 standard ones. If you ever encounter any issues, we've got a comprehensive Help section with videos where you can see first-hand how to setup or change any record.
