Whenever a page on your website does not load, an error message shall be shown to the website visitor. Since there are different errors, there are different pages that will show up, but what is standard for all of them is that they are generic and probably shall have practically nothing that is similar to the design of your site, which may be irritating for any site visitor. This is the reason why website hosting service providers have introduced a function known as Custom Error Pages. For a number of different errors, visitors will see your custom made content, which could be informative or funny, in accordance with your personal preference, and that will match the overall design of your website, so the pages shall not seem like they aren't part of your website at all. You can use this option for a number of errors - 400 (Bad request), 401 (Unauthorized), 403 (Forbidden) and 404 (File not Found).

Custom Error Pages in Hosting

You will be able to set up custom error pages for each of your websites without difficulty if you use any of our hosting plans. This can be done from the Hosted Domains part of the Hepsia Control Panel, offered with all accounts as soon as you go there, you could set your custom pages independently for any domain or subdomain. You should upload the files to your account ahead of time and input the links to them through the process. This function could be de-activated anytime and the options you shall be able to to select from are a standard page from our system or a default Apache server page. Customized error pages can be set with an .htaccess file as well. The file should be placed in the domain or subdomain folder and it must contain some system code and links to the pages. If you are not tech-savvy, you may copy the whole content needed for the file from our Help section.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers

Our semi-dedicated hosting plans support tailor-made error pages, thus you'll be able to employ this function for any domain or subdomain hosted in your account. All it will take to do this is to visit the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia CP, to click on the Edit button linked to the specific domain/subdomain and to type in the link to the custom file. You'll be able to do this separately for each and every error type. You will be able to switch back to a standard error page anytime if needed and the change shall take effect right away. Another way to get the very same result is to put an .htaccess file inside the domain or subdomain folder associated with the website which you would like to edit and to enter a couple of lines of code inside it. If you need to try this method, you could copy and paste the needed code from our Knowledge Base article on custom error pages, thus you shall not need any coding skills or previous experience.
